The Hottest Girl

 by Marc Caccavale

The 1998 “A Beautiful Mind” highlighted John Nash’s contributions to what is today known as game theory. Without getting into the mathematical specifics of Nash’s brilliance, the scene at a bar at Princeton, where Nash analogizes the concentration of a collection of men seeking the attention of the most attractive woman at the bar, he begins to understand the unproductive effort and energy being exerted in this endeavor. The concentration of resources and effort by many on a single objective leads to diminished or no results for most of them.

This is the reality of the marketplace of technology. Enormous effort and resources allocated to narrow objectives leads to a high degree of failure. Everyone cites the winners, little attention is given to the losers. History is written by the victors. Think about it.
